Donald Trump arrived at the heavily guarded Manhattan tower of his namesake on Tuesday night and was escorted inside behind a white tent and protected by Secret Service snipers amid heightened security for the former president's family during their stay in New York City.
The Republican presidential candidate flew to New York to attend a town hall meeting in Flint, Michigan, and arrived at Trump Tower shortly before 11 p.m.
Trump, 78, was removed from his motorcade under a white tent and then escorted with the help of the NYPD to the tower on Fifth Avenue.
When Trump's motorcade arrived, a Secret Service anti-sniper team was positioned on top of the scaffolding to monitor the area.
Law enforcement sources said the former president and his family are receiving extra security during their visit to the city after a narrowly thwarted assassination attempt on Sunday at a Florida golf course, just over two months after another gunman tried to kill the former president at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Sources say he has more security personnel than any other former president in the five governorates.
President Trump's family has also been under increased surveillance while in New York City, with the NYPD stepping in to provide additional security.
Former first lady Melania Trump was seen leaving Trump Tower earlier that morning accompanied by a heavily armed escort.
She was seen leaving the building named after her husband in a motorcade of eight cars, double the usual number.
Trump is in town on Wednesday to hold a campaign rally on Long Island.
