President Donald Trump made a generous offer after learning that stuck astronauts would not receive overtime pay.
The president was asking a question from a reporter in the oval office when Fox News' Peter Doucy told him that the once-stuck astronaut would not work overtime despite being stuck in space for 286 days.
“I get it for them. …That's not that much for what they had to go through.”
Doocy reported that astronauts only receive $5 a day on additional salaries. This would be $1,430.
“Well, no one ever mentioned this to me. If I had to, would I pay it from my pocket? “…that's not much for what they had to go through.”
Trump thanked Elon Musk for sending the SpaceX ship to rescue astronauts who had been stuck in space since the Biden administration.
“And if we don't have Elon, they might be there for a long time,” Trump continued. “Who else will get them? And I just want to thank him. He's been going on a lot.”
SpaceX capsules were scattered on Tuesday in the newly renamed US Gulf off Florida with four astronauts, including Snee Williams and Butchwillmore. The pair was originally scheduled for only a short eight-day stay at the International Space Station, but due to safety issues with Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, NASA was on board for about nine months.
Some noted that you can see dolphins flying around ocean capsules.
