Trump Orders Submarines Amid Tensions with Russia

In a recent statement, President Trump announced that two nuclear submarines have been dispatched closer to Russia. This decision comes in light of “very provocative statements” made by high-ranking officials in the Kremlin.

Former President Dmitry Medvedev, who now serves as vice-chairman of Russia’s Security Council, had criticized Trump in a post on X. He remarked that each of these new ultimatums poses a threat and escalates tensions towards war.

Trump responded by stating, “I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be placed in the right area in case these stupid, inflammatory statements are more than that.” However, he did not disclose the exact locations of the submarines.

“Words carry weight and can lead to unintended consequences,” Trump added, expressing hope that this situation wouldn’t escalate further.

If the ongoing conflict in Ukraine does not end by August 8, Trump warned Moscow of potential secondary sanctions.

In his post, Medvedev reminded Trump that “Russia is neither Israel nor Iran,” emphasizing that fresh ultimatums only escalate threats, not just between Russia and Ukraine, but towards the U.S. as well.

Medvedev, known for his blunt statements on social media, also threw in a jab, telling Trump not to “go down sleepy Joe Road!” His remarks are often less restrained than those of President Putin.

Medvedev, who was president from 2008 to 2012, was often viewed as a subordinate to Putin.

The Russian president has not commented on Trump’s anticipated sanctions, though Medvedev has openly criticized the threats. He previously stated that Trump’s dramatic ultimatums caused the world to tremble, yet Russia remained unfazed.

At 59, Medvedev has expressed heightened concerns under President Biden’s leadership, suggesting that if nuclear weapons were sent to Ukraine by November 2024, Russia could view that as justification for a nuclear response.

He also challenged Trump for his previous actions against Iran’s nuclear efforts, stating, “At this rate, Trump can forget the Nobel Peace Prize.”
