Former President Donald Trump on Monday rejected support for a national abortion ban, saying instead that abortion laws should be left to each state.
“My view now is that from a legal standpoint the abortions that everyone wanted are happening, and it’s going to be up to each state to decide by vote or by law or both. And what they decide is “Whatever it is, it has to be the law of the land. In this case, it’s the law of the state,” Trump said in a video message posted on his Truth Social page.
“Many states will be different,” Trump added. “Many people have different numbers of weeks, some are more conservative than others, but that’s their character. In the end, this all depends on the will of the people.”
President Trump reiterated this, saying he supports exceptions in cases of incest, rape, and cases where the mother’s life is in danger.
