MSNBC host Ari Melber aired a video of an interview with former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove on “The Beat” Wednesday at the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival.
“If they’re smart, they’re going to cherish January 6th and go all in,” Rove said. “And they want to pardon these people who attacked the Capitol.” I would say I worked in that building when I was younger. To me, the United States Congress is one of the great examples of the strength of our democracy and the jewel of our Constitution. ”
He added: “What they did when they violently attacked the Capitol to prevent Congress from meeting constitutionally required to accept the Electoral College results is a landmark in our history. It’s a stain. And every single one of the sons who did that, we should find them, bring them to justice, and put them in prison. And one of the big mistakes that was made in this campaign was Donald Trump. said, “I will forgive them because they are hostages.” No, it’s not. they are thugs. Some carried automatic weapons at a Virginia hotel in hopes of being called up. ”
“Some people said, ‘Where’s Nancy Pelosi?'” Rove added. You know, there were people who were stealing desks, sitting on the Speaker’s desk, trying to find people to bring to justice, shouting at the police, “Kill them, kill them all.” So I don’t understand why Trump did this. If he says, “You know what?” I trust our jury system, I trust law enforcement, and whoever stormed the Capitol should — I mean. He said it once or twice, and now he’s on video with the people who assaulted police officers in an attempt to take over the Capitol. Power. “
“It would be a mistake on the part of the Trump campaign to allow the president’s impulses to be equated with those who stormed the Capitol rather than with those defending law and order,” he concluded.
