Trump proposes actions to identify reporters' sources regarding the Iran strike

Trump Discusses Pressuring Reporters on Iran Strike Sources

During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, former President Donald Trump indicated that journalists might be compelled to disclose their sources regarding the recent U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. This came after he criticized leaks connected to the operation.

In the interview with host Maria Bartiromo, Trump referenced a social media post he made, which accused Democrats of leaking details about the military action. He stated, “They should be prosecuted,” responding to a question about accountability for those involved.

Bartiromo inquired about how to ascertain who should face prosecution, to which Trump suggested that there are methods his administration could employ to uncover this information.

In his critique of media outlets, Trump took aim at the New York Times and CNN, arguing they had misreported the impact of the military strikes on Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He described their coverage as “fake news,” asserting that the airstrikes did not adequately neutralize the country’s nuclear ambitions.

For instance, CNN reported that the U.S. strikes on three sites did not destroy essential components of Iran’s nuclear program, merely delaying their progress by a few months. The New York Times echoed this sentiment in its own reporting.

Trump, speaking at the NATO summit in the Netherlands, dismissed the narratives as fabricated stories designed for attention. He expressed frustration at what he perceived as sensationalist reporting by these outlets.

Both CNN and the New York Times have defended their reporting amid Trump’s claims.
