During a Friday episode of ABC’s “The View,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called former President Donald Trump’s discussion of Vice President Kamala Harris’ race “uncomfortable” during an appearance at a National Association of Black Journalists event on Wednesday.
Co-host Sunny Hostin said, “Trump, Vance and others have predictably unleashed racist and sexist attacks on the VP, calling her stupid and crazy, criticizing the way she laughs and suggesting she’s unfit to be a DEI nominee. Just this week, Trump questioned her racial identity, claiming she somehow became black. Now, how do you respond to that, and do you think this is a losing battle?”
“It’s awful. I think her response was perfect. She talked about it. She called him out. She challenged him to say it to his face. He’s obviously afraid to say it to his face because he pulled out of the debate, but she didn’t let that distract her from focusing on what she’s going to do to make us all better, because the truth is, this is his strategy. He didn’t just blurt out racist remarks in front of a lecture hall full of black journalists, he did it for a very clear reason: to change the subject.”
She added, “He can’t take away his candidate’s plan for our lives in this election because his plan would cut taxes on the wealthy again, restrict women’s freedom and build on past actions that have destroyed a woman’s right to choose. These are things he cannot defend and the American people cannot afford to focus on.”
