Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-South Dakota) said during an appearance on the show that there is no danger in considering purchasing the Panama Canal. Breitbart News Saturdaydiscussing President-elect Donald Trump's thoughts and his status as the “quintessential deal maker.”
Johnson recently introduced Regarding the Panama Canal Repurchase Act, Breitbart News Saturday There is no harm in inquiring about such purchases.
“I don't know if this is a good idea, I don't know if it's even possible, but what are the risks of considering it?” he asked. “That's what I don't understand about the left. They've been clutching at this wariness and this pearl.”
He said some on the left have accepted the idea, but others say it's dangerous, and he says the criticism is meaningless.
“It's not risky to go and ask someone if they're interested in selling you something when negotiations like that happen every day,” he says, adding that when he was in business, Even though “other parties indicated at the start of negotiations that they were not interested in a deal.”
“Sometimes you start talking and things come together. Donald Trump is the classic dealmaker,” he said. “Let's give him a little bit of flexibility here to see if a deal gets done. You're right about Panama. They'll decide this is in their best interest. .”
“Suez Canal traffic has fallen by 65 percent due to the uncertainty created by the Houthis' intermittent attacks and the Chinese military's increasing desire to expand its presence in the canal. They may not want that kind of traffic reduction. It would have a devastating impact on their economy and budget,” he said.
Ultimately, Johnson said, many Republicans are in favor and “we're going to give President Trump the flexibility he needs to evaluate this.”

“I've talked about it a lot with his team, and I'm going to talk about it with the president tomorrow night over dinner, so I'm really looking forward to it. I mean, he's a force of nature. His behavior is really, really confusing to the left,” he said, citing the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem as an example.
“And every time he says something, I mean, let me give you an example, he talked about moving the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem…the left is saying that millions of people will be killed. It would destabilize the Middle East. It would cause this incredible war. And of course he made changes, but nothing like that happens. “I didn’t,” he said.
“There's a certain amount of fear-mongering going on around Donald Trump's ideas,” he explained. “Some of his ideas are not meant to be serious. And sometimes he's kind of making fun of people, trying to make us think about something in a new way.” Sometimes he wants it to be thought-provoking, not literal.”
“But there are times when he's pushing issues that are actually great ideas. And I've told our friends across the political spectrum that when he's talking about certain ideas, he's actually pushing issues that are great ideas. that you need to be smart enough to understand what is driving I think we need to be reminded. And now we understand that all these Western Hemisphere expansion ideas, “The Panama Canal would be the easiest thing to do,'' and “the most important short term for our country. “This would have significant national and economic security implications.”
“And I'm really looking forward to seeing this idea mature,” the congressman added.
