Trump quotes Fox News host on prospective jurors despite gag order

NEW YORK — Former President Trump targeted potential jurors Wednesday in his first criminal trial despite a gag order barring him from speaking publicly about jurors.

President Trump: “They’re secretly capturing liberal activists who lied to judges to get on Trump juries.” Posted on Truth Socialhonoring FOX News host Jesse Waters.

Under the gag order, the former president is prohibited from “directing or instructing others to make any public statements about potential jurors or the jurors in this criminal proceeding.”

Prosecutors have already asked that Trump be fined for three previous Truth social posts in which the former president referred to witnesses. The gag order also prohibits President Trump from speaking about their participation in the incident.

President Trump has appealed the gag order, arguing that it is an unconstitutional violation of First Amendment rights, but it remains in place to this day.

During the first two days of jury selection, his lawyers took aim at potential jurors’ social media posts, arguing that many of them showed anti-Trump bias.

The judge agreed to remove some of them for cause, but rejected others because they found their posts did not show they were unfair to the former president.

Jury selection continues Thursday, and the judge expects opening statements to be made Monday.
