Body camera footage taken moments after the assassination attempt on former President Trump shows police discussing how the sniper “lost sight” of the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa posted a three-minute video to social media on Tuesday that shows officials on the roof of the building in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Crooks was shot and killed by a sniper.
“The Beaver County shooter saw it and sent a photo. This is him,” one officer told another man, who appeared to be a Secret Service agent, on the roof.
“The rifle is clearly there,” another officer said, pointing at the weapon.

The first officer, who was recording on his body camera, said the shooter who spotted Crooks was still inside a nearby building, indicating the shooter’s location.
“The sniper is the one who sent the original photo. He saw the man get off the bike, put his bag down and then lost sight of him,” the officer said. “He’s also the one who sent the photo. I don’t know if you took the same photo that I did, but…”

“I think so,” the man who appeared to be a Secret Service agent replied. “He wears glasses…”
The footage was obtained from the Beaver County Emergency Services Division, and Grassley posted it on X. Fox News Digital blurred images of the bodies.
“So you detained someone, right?” the man, who appeared to be a Secret Service agent, asked.

“I don’t know about that,” the officer replied.
“There were two people detained on our side,” another officer said.
“Our staff member who was here earlier told me they had a man in custody, the owner of the motorcycle. I said, ‘No, no, that’s the owner of the motorcycle,'” the investigator said, pointing to Crooks’ body.
“We weren’t aware of that information since we were here,” the officer said.

“We just carried our stuff and came over here, we just jumped on the roof,” another person can be heard saying.
Investigators later said those detained were filming, adding “they may or may not have been involved.”
“People who saw them filming say, ‘They were filming us, then they filmed the guy on the roof, filming us, then the gunfire started and they ran off,’ and I say, ‘Didn’t that happen to everybody?'” the agent said. “I have no problem detaining them. We’ll detain them. We’ll find out who they know. Who they are. Anyway. Again, I’m trying to get clear information to give to DC.”
