Trump rally victim identified as Corey Comperatore, ‘hero’ shielded wife and girls from bullets

Family members identified Corey Comperatore as the rally attendee who died Saturday. Assassination attempt He spoke about former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Comperatore, 50, was a former Buffalo Township volunteer fire chief who was shot and killed during a campaign event when suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at Trump from a sniper position about 130 yards away, according to local news station WPXI.

Authorities said two other people were seriously injured in the attack, and Trump suffered a graze on his ear.

The victim’s sister, Dawn Comperatore Schafer, wrote on Facebook that Corey was “a hero who protected his daughters.”

“His wife and daughters survived the unthinkable, the unimaginable,” Dawn Comperatore Schafer wrote.

“My brother just turned 50 and has so much more to experience in life. Hate knows no limits, love knows no boundaries. Please pray for my sister-in-law, niece, mother, sister, me, my brother’s niece and nephew. This feels like a terrible nightmare but it is our painful reality.”

The post was accompanied by a photo of Corey celebrating his 50th birthday.

Witnesses at the rally said one of the victims was shot in the head and is now believed to be Comperatore, and emergency room doctors at the rally reportedly performed CPR on a member of the crowd.

Another family member, Allison Comperatore, believed to be the victim’s daughter, also shared her grief on Facebook, posting a moving tribute.

“Yesterday, time stopped and when it started moving again, me and my family began living a real-life nightmare,” Allison wrote. “He was the best father a girl could ever ask for.”

She posted several photos of Comperatore, including one of him fishing and another of him holding a birthday cake.

“The media won’t tell you that he died as a real-life superhero. They won’t tell you how quickly he hurled me and my mother to the ground. They won’t tell you how he shielded me from bullets coming towards us.”

“He loved his family. He loved us so much that he would take a bullet for us.”

A GoFundMe set up for his family has already raised nearly $80,000.

Matt Achilles, who lived near Comperatore for four years, described him as a good neighbor and a dedicated public servant to the Tribune-Review.

“He was a good man,” Achilles said Sunday morning. “We may not have agreed on many political points, but that didn’t stop him from being a good friend and neighbor.”

“When I was in the hospital, he donated money to us and always came to our garage sales. He always waved when I drove by his house.”

Crooks, 20, is from Bethel Park. Pittsburgh Suburbs It’s about an hour south of where the assassination attempt took place.

A Fox News Digital investigation found that Crooks would have turned 21 in September. He had no reported criminal or traffic violations, and no bankruptcies, liens or foreclosures.

The FBI is investigating the shooting as an assassination attempt.
