Trump Reduces China Tariffs as the Nation Welcomes U.S. Agriculture

Trump Reduces Tariffs Following China’s Agricultural Purchases

President Trump announced a reduction in tariffs on China after the country agreed to increase its imports of U.S. agricultural products, sharing the news in a post on Truth Social.

During a meeting on Thursday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in South Korea, Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed what Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called “strategic and long-term issues.”

Post-meeting, Trump described the conversation as “really great” and indicated a significant level of mutual respect between the two nations. He mentioned that they had reached agreements on numerous matters and were close to resolving other important issues. He highlighted that Xi has authorized China to start purchasing considerable amounts of soybeans, sorghum, and various other agricultural goods from the U.S.

This development is noteworthy, especially considering that China, traditionally the largest buyer of U.S. soybeans, had significantly reduced its purchases starting in May amid escalating trade tensions.

Trump expressed optimism about the news, noting, “Our farmers will be so happy! In fact, as I said during my first term, they should go out and acquire more land and larger tractors immediately. A big thank you to President Xi for this!”

The discussion also included an agreement for China to openly distribute rare earth materials and critical minerals. Additionally, Trump mentioned China’s commitment to work on stopping the flow of fentanyl into the U.S., stating, “They will help end the fentanyl crisis.” He further noted that China is set to initiate purchases of American energy, potentially leading to a large deal for oil and gas from Alaska, with talks ongoing among energy teams from both countries.

Trump emphasized that this agreement could bring prosperity and security for millions of Americans. As he was on his way back to Washington, he also expressed gratitude to Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and others for their kindness and hospitality.

He concluded by thanking attendees from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam for their contributions, claiming, “Hundreds of billions of dollars come into our country thanks to them. America is strong, respected, and admired again, and the best is yet to come!”
