Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump opened up about his views on religion, prayer and heaven in a new interview, saying he fears the world is on the brink of a major war. When asked what he prays for in a wide-ranging interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump acknowledged, “I know you don’t want to talk about this very much.”
“I don’t think so,” Trump said.
“Americans want to know that we believe there is something beyond this world,” Ingraham said.
“I think so. I think one of the reasons why our country has lost almost everything, why our country has lost so much, is because we don’t have the same level of religion,” Trump responded.
“And the Democrats have been violent and cruel to religion during the COVID pandemic,” he said, “… but religion gives me hope. If I’m good, I’m going to heaven.”
“Do you believe in heaven?” Ingraham asked.
“I think so,” he said. “If I’m good, I go to heaven. And if I’m bad, I go somewhere else, like over there.”
“But it will do great good for the country,” Trump added, presumably referring to religious beliefs.
“When you pray, what do you pray for?” Ingraham asked.
“I pray for my country. … Of course, I pray the same things you pray for. [for] “We have families and we have countries. … We have families. We have countries. And I think we have the world. And I pray for the world,” Trump said.
The former president then said he was concerned the world was on a state of war.
“We are now very close to a world war,” Trump said.
“The Middle East is very close to an explosive situation. The problems with Russia and Ukraine are much more serious than you might imagine.”
