President Trump faced questions on Wednesday regarding the potential appointment of a special advisor to look into issues linked to the dishonest financial activities of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Following a speech at the White House, a CNN reporter inquired whether he would consider such an appointment.
Trump responded, “I have nothing to do with that.”
Calls for the release of more information about Epstein have come from many of Trump’s prominent supporters, including members of Congress. Even staunch supporters like far-right activist Laura Rumer and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) expressed discontent over the handling of the case and requested a special investigation.
Last week, the Justice Department and the FBI confirmed that Epstein did not have a client list and stated that he died by suicide while in a New York City prison in 2019.
This information has left many in the Maga movement incensed, as they have long alleged conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s death, claiming that significant Democrats would appear on his supposed client list.
In response to criticism, Trump posted on social media, labeling the uproar over Epstein’s files a “fraud” orchestrated by Democrats. This indicated that he might be distancing himself from supporters advocating for greater transparency.
In his post, Trump claimed, “Their new scam is what we’ll call Jeffrey Epstein’s hoax forever. My previous supporters have bought this ‘Bulls’ hook, line, and sinker.” He suggested that those supporters have failed to learn from past mistakes.
He went on to assert, “I have probably achieved more success in six months than any president in our country’s history. These people are part of Jeffrey Epstein’s Hoax, with a powerful plot by the Democrats who have starved fake news and success,” continuing, “Let’s move these vulnerable people forward and do the Democrats’ work. Don’t even think about discussing our incredible, unprecedented success.”
