Trump removes 'Made in the USA' label from $499 smartphone: 'Proudly American'

Earlier this month, the Trump family announced a new phone at their headquarters, set against a large American flag, delivering a pitch that’s straightforward, compact, and filled with patriotic sentiment.

It seems that Trump is having a change of heart.

What’s your take? Perhaps it’s about creating a “Privately Americans” message?

This could replace the recent “USA In the USA” slogan on their website, where customers can now pre-order a T-1 gold-tone phone.

Last week, Trump Mobile introduced the T-1 gold-tone mobile phone priced at $499, featuring an American flag design etched on it.

In addition to this, the website also uses vague phrases that highlight the phone’s “American Pride Design,” emphasizing that it’s “here in America.”

The Federal Trade Commission stipulates that items labeled “Made in USA” must be produced in the U.S. significantly, and several companies have faced legal issues for mislabeling.

The Trump organization has yet to clarify this change and hasn’t responded to inquiries. The public relations firm handling Trump’s mobile phone business also didn’t confirm statements made to other media.

According to USA Today, Trump Mobile spokesperson Chris Walker asserted, “The opposite speculation is simply inaccurate.”

Experts state that manufacturing smartphones in the U.S. is nearly impossible due to high costs and insufficient infrastructure.

The alteration in website language was first highlighted by The Verge.

IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo, knowledgeable in mobile technology, mentioned he wasn’t surprised by the Trump family’s decision to drop the “USA” label.

But, you know, there’s still room for insistence.

“Whether you can build this phone in the U.S. hinges on your definition of ‘build’,” Geronimo explained. “If it’s merely assembling components on a smaller scale, then that’s somewhat feasible. You can source parts from China and assemble them manually here.”

Recently, Eric Trump told Fox News, “We have cell phones made here in the United States.”

In the past, the Trump family has marketed items like the “God’s Blessing The USA” Bible, which had questionable origins, as investigations revealed it was printed in China.

The phone is part of a broader family business strategy aimed at tapping into MAGA supporters’ enthusiasm for Trump. Eric and Don Jr. announced a mobile phone plan priced at $47.45 monthly, referencing their father’s presidency. They mentioned that call centers are also based in the U.S.

“You’re not calling a call center in Bangladesh,” Eric Trump emphasized. “We’re operating from St. Louis, Missouri.”

Considering that Donald Trump has regulated his business and is currently scrutinizing a competing phone service, these new offerings have raised eyebrows among government ethics experts concerning potential conflicts of interest.

Trump has also made threats against mobile manufacturer Apple, due to their plans to shift production mostly to India, hinting at a 25% tariff on their devices.
