Biden Extends Kamala Harris’ Secret Service Protection
The Biden administration reportedly issued a confidential order to prolong the Secret Service protection for Kamala Harris beyond the usual timeframe granted to former vice presidents.
On Thursday, former President Donald Trump rescinded Harris’ federal protections, as stated in a memorandum reviewed by various outlets.
While Trump has had Secret Service protection throughout his life, the vice president typically retains it for six months post-term, set to conclude on July 21st. However, just before leaving office, President Biden seems to have extended Harris’ security for an additional year.
A memorandum directed to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem referenced that security measures could be continued beyond legal requirements for specific individuals, effective September 1, 2025.
The timing of Harris’ protection ending coincides with her upcoming book tour for her memoir, “107 Days,” which provides a personal account of the swiftest presidential election in recent history, set to be released on September 23rd.
“The Vice President is thankful for the professionalism, dedication, and unyielding commitment to safety from the Secret Service,” noted Harris’ senior advisor.
As of now, neither the White House nor the Secret Service has offered comments regarding the situation. A spokesperson for Biden declined to provide any remarks, according to reports.
In connection with this, Biden’s adult children, Hunter and Ashley, had received Secret Service protection but were also stripped of it earlier in March.
“We acknowledge the decision to terminate security for Hunter and Ashley Biden,” the agency had stated previously. “The Secret Service is collaborating with the White House to ensure a smooth transition.”
