Rep. Jerry Nadler appears to hold Trump responsible for the Knicks' loss in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Wembaneyama Skirts Suspension in NBA Finals

In a tense moment during Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Victor Wembaneyama of the San Antonio Spurs narrowly avoided a potential suspension. According to NBA rules, a player who gathers four significant foul points can face automatic suspension.

During the first quarter, Wembaneyama made contact with Jalen Brunson while the New York Knicks guard was trying to set a screen. As Wembaneyama turned, he inadvertently pushed Brunson, who ended up falling to the ground. This incident drew noticeable protests from the Knicks bench, but the referee opted not to call a foul.

ESPN later reported that Wembaneyama would not be subject to a retrospective review concerning this uncalled foul, citing sources familiar with the situation.

The play ignited discussions among sports analysts and fans, including reactions from notable figures like President Donald Trump, who was present at the game.

Trump expressed his discontent with the officiating, stating, “I thought it was a very bad call. That’s right. I personally thought it was a very bad call. But I’m not the referee, am I?” He had been watching the game from a suite with his granddaughter.

For context, it marked Trump’s attendance as a sitting president at an NBA Finals game, a first in history. He noted that he found both teams impressive, calling out players like Brunson as “amazing” and recognizing others from both squads.

In terms of game results, the Spurs pulled off a 115-111 victory over the Knicks, giving New York a 2-1 lead in the series as they prepared for Game 4.

Wembaneyama made an early impact in Game 3, scoring the right points, while the Spurs showed dominance early on, leading 41-22 at the end of the first quarter. The performance involved notable contributions from other players as well, setting the stage for the rest of the series.
