Trump reveals arms deal for NATO allies and cautions Putin about 100% tariffs if no peace agreement is reached

Trump Confirms US Arms Sales to NATO

On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that the United States has agreed to sell weapons to NATO. This comes shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned that there are only 50 days left to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine or face “100%” tariffs.

NATO Executive Director Mark Latte revealed that Trump contacted him on Thursday, expressing his intent to finalize a contract for arms sales to NATO allies, aimed at supporting Ukraine. Trump stated that billions worth of weapons will be sourced from countries like Germany, Finland, and Denmark, to be promptly sent to Ukraine.

Latte remarked, “It’s really big,” during a press briefing at the Oval Office alongside Trump. He indicated that this decision stems from the “risqué success” observed at last month’s NATO summit.

“European nations are stepping up,” Latte noted. He mentioned ongoing discussions with various countries, confirming significant commitments from Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands. He emphasized that this is just the initial phase, with more expected to follow. “We are coordinating to understand what support Ukrainians require through the NATO framework.”

In terms of military support, Trump is reportedly considering sending Patriot missiles to Ukraine as frustration with Russia escalates. Latte has already met with Defense Secretary Pete Hegses to ensure the U.S. meets its own defense needs while collaborating with NATO allies to fulfill Ukraine’s military orders.

Trump mentioned that Moscow seems “very unhappy” with the current situation, reflecting on past agreements with Putin that failed to materialize. He recounted instances where he believed a deal was in place, only for it to collapse as attacks resumed in Ukrainian cities. “After a few cycles of that, you start to feel… what’s the point?” he stated.

Despite some internal dissent among Republicans regarding sustained U.S. support for Ukraine, Trump concluded that “a strong Europe is ultimately beneficial.”
