Trump Teases Design for New White House Ballroom
President Donald Trump recently shared a glimpse of the new White House Ballroom set to be constructed in the East Wing, and it seems the project is progressing as planned, according to White House officials.
“Our great national security facility and banquet hall is on schedule and, when completed, will have no equal anywhere in the world,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
To give the public an idea of what’s in store, President Trump released several images showcasing the planned design for the White House. One close-up illustrates the classical-style columns’ capitals, which appear to be inspired by Roman composite architecture. These columns are adorned with layered acanthus leaves, symbolizing perseverance and rebirth, alongside angular designs reminiscent of the U.S. Supreme Court’s architecture. A notable touch is the inclusion of a lion’s head, adding a bold statement.
The decorative acanthus leaves not only adorn the columns but also extend into the frieze below the ceiling, giving off a somewhat delicate and whimsical air, almost like Rococo-era designs.
This ballroom’s design aligns with the neoclassical style found in significant American landmarks like the U.S. Capitol and Monticello, which reflect the ancient Greek and Roman influences that inspired the nation’s founders.
Despite the ambitious plans, some lawmakers have raised concerns over the lack of Congressional approval for this project. However, the Trump administration maintains that it will be financed through personal contributions from the president and private donors, not taxpayer money.
The expected completion date for the ballroom is September 2028.
“President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail,” said White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. “The President and the Trump White House are committed to preserving the special history of the White House while creating a beautiful banquet hall for future administrations and generations of Americans to enjoy.”
