Trump’s Judicial Nominations
President Donald Trump recently shared his thoughts on judicial nominations through social media. In a post on Tuesday, he expressed frustration, stating that the judiciary is obstructing his elected duties.
“Our court system doesn’t allow me to perform my elected work. Activist judges are undermining the Trump administration by bringing criminals into the system!” he asserted in a follow-up post on Wednesday.
Among his recent announcements, Trump nominated Maria Lanahan, the Deputy Director in Missouri, for a position as a US District Court judge for the Eastern District of Missouri, dubbing her a “true patriot.”
He also selected Judge Christian Stevens for the same court, referring to him as a “Great Patriot” dedicated to the region.
When asked about the timeline for these judicial nominations, Trump replied, “We’re putting them in quickly.”
Additionally, Zachary Bluestone was nominated for the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, with Trump describing him as a “true legal warrior.” A press release stated that Bluestone currently serves as the Chief of Appeal and violent crime prosecutor in the area.
Trump has also appointed Joshua Divine for the US District Courts in both the Eastern and Western Missouri Districts.
Furthermore, he declared his support for Edward Aloysius O’Connell as an assistant judge in the District of Columbia Superior Court, stating that O’Connell would aid in addressing violent crimes in the city.
O’Connell serves as the Chief of Staff and Deputy Advisor for the U.S. Nuclear Regulation Commission’s Inspector’s Office.
These judicial nominees now await confirmation from the US Senate.
Last week, Trump also announced Whitney Hermandorfer’s nomination for the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, calling her a “fighter” who inspires confidence in the legal system. She currently heads strategic litigation at the Tennessee Attorney General’s office.
