President Donald Trump said to an oval office journalist on Tuesday that he would tear a high -speed railway project in California and to investigate trains for many years.
Trump answered his remarks in question about the Eron Mask's efforts to eradicate government waste. He added:
I want to see the kickback [in USAID] teeth. How much money has been turned back? Who spent some of the money you read, I have read it, and I see it every night, and when I read the dissertation, do I see it every morning? ? I will say this: The people who have earned all the money, are they kicking them back to the government? No, it's very rotten for me. The real problem is how many kickbacks were.
And since I have never seen anything to this extent, one of the things I want to investigate quickly is the worst of the trains built between Los Angeles and San Francisco. This is a project. And I have seen some of the worst. It has exceeded the budget of billions of dollars and hundreds of millions of dollars. In fact, I went to the train, brought everyone who was trying to get the best limousine service in the world, went back and forth in a limousine, and read a place where hundreds of millions of dollars were left. That's the worst -and because we can't, we start investigating. I built it for a living and built on time within the budget. It is impossible for something to cost so much. And now it doesn't even go to San Francisco, and it's not going to Los Angeles. They have made it much shorter. So now it's in a small place, far from San Francisco, far from Los Angeles. No -we have never seen such a thing, so we intend to start a big investigation. Nobody has seen such a thing. The worst overrun that matches the history of our country. And that was not necessary either. I would have said that you don't care -You take an airplane, it costs $ 2 for you, it costs you know. You take an airplane. But this has begun. Drive as needed. You can drive. They have hundreds of billions of dollars cost overrun. And that's not even the same project. It's much shorter. It is outside San Francisco and is outside Los Angeles. So we look into it.
Asked whether Masks' government efficiency (DOGE) would investigate a high -speed railway project in California, and Trump answered: “No, I'm doing it myself.”
With Trump's remarks, he put him on track for another battle with the Governor of California, Gabin New Sam (D). NEWSOM canceled the legs of the San Francisco and Los Angeles trains in 2019 and acknowledged that it was “too expensive” and “it takes too long.” But he tried to hold the countryside of the train. Trump immediately blocked the project to reach California in his first term, trying to regain the money of the already spending federal government. President Joe Biden has recovered funds, but has little progress in the project.
NEWSOM and Biden later threw a weight behind another high -speed rail project connecting Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Trump did not mention the project.
