Former President Trump slammed ABC News host George Stephanopoulos as “the meanest, cruelest interviewer” ahead of his scheduled interview with President Biden later Friday.
In a post on his Truth Social platformTrump called the ABC anchor “George Slopadopulos” and slammed his network as “Fake News ABC, one of the worst, most vile networks in the business.”
The former president also noted that one of the network’s former reporters, Brian Ross, was fired for falsely reporting about alleged communications between Russian officials and former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn during the 2016 election.
“Now ABC and that little angry guy, Riddle George, can make up for their past indiscretions and journalistic failures by doing a real interview with Crooked Joe, not just a piecemeal PR spree with a few of his decent answers,” Trump wrote.
The former president has a history with Stephanopoulos and ABC News: He sued the two for defamation in March after the ABC News anchor, during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, asked if Trump had been convicted of rape in the E. Jean Carroll case, when in fact he was convicted of sexual assault.
Biden, who has been trying to allay concerns about his age and mental health following his disastrous performance in last week’s debate, will speak to Stephanopoulos in an interview that will air on Friday night. The ABC interview will be Biden’s first since the debate.
Still, several House Democrats and others in the party have begun calling for Biden to drop out of the race, raising questions about the party’s future course ahead of a virtual vote for the presidential nomination and the Democratic National Convention next month.
