Trump says GOP will push to eliminate daylight saving time

President-elect Trump said Friday that Republicans will push to eliminate daylight saving time, calling it “inconvenient” and “costly.”

President Trump posted on Truth Social: “Republicans are going to do everything in their power to abolish daylight saving time, which has a small but powerful base, but they shouldn't do that! Daylight saving time is inconvenient and extremely costly to the nation.'' did.

Lawmakers have been introducing bills to make daylight saving time permanent for years, but the bills have struggled to pass both chambers of Congress.

Supporters of making daylight saving time permanent argue that while most Americans would not have to set their clocks back an hour in the fall, it would allow more sunlight in the second half of the day, allowing people to claims that it will allow people to enjoy the outdoors for longer.

But critics of the change argue that it means it will be dark outside until later in the morning, meaning children will have to go to school in the dark and, in some cases, have to wait for the bus. There is.

Making standard time permanent would mean more daylight hours earlier in the day throughout the year.

It was not immediately clear whether President Trump favors making daylight saving time or standard time permanent. Hill asked Trump's transition team for clarification.

Although most parts of the United States have had daylight saving time since the 1960s, daylight saving time was first introduced in 1918 by then-President Woodrow Wilson.
