President-elect Donald Trump on Monday commented on the controversy surrounding mysterious drones that have been spotted in New Jersey and elsewhere.
President Trump said he believed the government knew the identity of the drones and claimed the public was not being told the truth. He made the comments while taking questions from reporters in Palm Beach, Florida.
“Something weird is going on and for some reason they don't want to tell people, and they should.”
President Trump said, “The government knows what's going on.”
“Our military knows where they took off from. If it's a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went. And , for some reason they don't want to comment. And I think, “They'd better say what it is,'' he added.
“Our military knows this, and the president knows it,” Trump continued. “And for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense. I can't imagine it being an enemy, because if it was an enemy, they would blow it up.”
He noted that the drone had been spotted over Bedminster, where he owns a private residence.
“I probably won’t be spending the weekend in Bedminster!” he joked. “I've decided to cancel my trip!”
Asked if he had received any intelligence reports about the drones, he said he did not want to comment on them.
“Something strange is happening and for some reason they don't want to tell the public, and they should,” he said.
Aside from the extraterrestrial theory, some wonder if foreign actors are using drones to spy on military bases. Recently, a Chinese national was arrested in California for flying a drone over a military base and taking photos.
