Former President Trump announced on Thursday that he would meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a move that came after the former president reportedly refused to meet with the Ukrainian president.
“As you know, President Zelenskiy has requested a meeting with me and we will meet tomorrow morning at approximately 9:45 a.m. at Trump Tower,” Trump said at a news conference in New York.
“And it's unfortunate what's happening in Ukraine, so many deaths and so much destruction. It's horrible.”
NBC News reported on Wednesday Trump reportedly decided not to meet with Zelensky. The former president criticized the Ukrainian president Wednesday while in North Carolina, saying, “He's making some kind of mean attacks on me, your favorite president.” According to news media.
President Zelensky displeased Republicans by calling Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) “too radical” in an interview with The New Yorker published earlier this week. Zelenskiy's decision to accompany Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) during a tour of an ammunition factory was also interpreted by some Republicans as campaigning for Democrats.
Mr. Trump's announcement came on the same day that Mr. Zelensky visited the White House.
The Hill has reached out to the Ukrainian embassy for comment.
