Trump sees a ‘manufacturing boom’ in first full jobs report of second term

President Donald Trump boasted that the US is experiencing a “manufacturing boom” following the release of his first full employment report of his second term.

The Labor Department reported Friday that employers added 151,000 jobs in February, down from the 160,000 jobs that LSEG economists had. However, manufacturing added 10,000 jobs in February, estimated the profits of LSEG economists of 5,000.

“Last year, the Biden administration lost more than 110,000 manufacturing or 9,000 manufacturing jobs each month. In his first month of office, not only stopped the manufacturing collapse, but it quickly turned around and earned a great deal,” Trump said. “We created 10,000 manufacturing industries in February alone. That didn't happen in a long time.”

“The ISM manufacturing survey and S&P manufacturing survey also confirm that our administration is hosting a brand new domestic manufacturing boom after a massive collapse under Biden.”

Trump said he considers the labor market “great,” but in contrast to government jobs, he will be doing well-paid manufacturing jobs.

“There were too many people in the government. You can't do that. We had a lot, there were a lot of people. This was 40 years ago. This is not now.

Federal employment fell 10,000 in February as Elon Musk-led government efficiency (DOGE) began cutting.

“Since the launch of NAFTA, 90,000 plants and factories have been closed in this country. Think of 90,000 plants and factories have been closed in this country. Many of them were auto manufacturing plants. That's awful statistics.

“You're already trying to see it. We have a lot of things that are already being built or are beginning to be built. There are a lot of things that are being built in other countries, they're stopped and they're coming here for tariffs. That's a big deal. That's what you want to hear.”

Trump also said that unless Canada charges 250% tariffs on US dairy and timber products and Canada lowers that tariff, the US will, perhaps today, impose 250% tariffs on similar products.

“They'll come across the exact same tariffs unless they drop it. And that's mutual meaning. And we might do it the same way we do today, or wait until Monday or Tuesday. But that's what we're trying to do,” Trump told White House reporters. “We're going to charge the same thing. It's not fair. It wasn't fair. And they've treated our farmers badly.”
