Under orders from the Trump administration, the Pentagon is deploying another 3,000 troops and armored striker vehicles on the US border with Mexico. The order expands current operations and “seals borders and protects the integrity of US territory,” officials said.
Additional forces will bring current military levels to more than 9,000 service members and will work with previously deployed federal and state law enforcement agencies.
The move was ordered by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses, who posted it on social media.
A prepared statement from the US Department of Defense revealed that the troops sent to the border include Striker Brigade Combat Teams and a general support air battalion.
As Breitbart Texas reports, since the start of his administration, US President Donald Trump has deployed thousands of active duty soldiers and Marines on the US-Mexico border, citing “national emergency.” More recently, government data shows that the aggressive measures and policies implemented by the Trump administration appear to be responsible for a sharp decline in immigration concerns at the border.
