Former Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vázquez Garcedo is set to receive a pardon from President Donald Trump, along with her co-defendants, according to sources. Vázquez’s case, marked by bribery charges linked to her 2020 gubernatorial campaign, is characterized as a politically charged prosecution. It began shortly after she endorsed Trump in 2020, and her pardon documents claim there was no quid pro quo involved and that the accusations were politically motivated.
White House officials confirmed that Trump also intends to pardon Vázquez’s co-defendants, Julio Martín Herrera Veltini and ex-FBI agent Mark Rossini. Vázquez alleges that the investigation extended beyond her campaign, suggesting there may have been scrutiny on the Trump campaign as well. She asserts that her discussions with bankers were not about bribery, but rather about policy agreements with potential donors. Interestingly, similar circumstances were seen in the case of Alexander Sittenfeld, who was pardoned in 2025.
In 2022, Vázquez was arrested amid bribery allegations regarding her campaign from late 2019 to mid-2020, when she was governor. Reports indicated that she allegedly accepted a bribe offer tied to her campaign, involving over $300,000 intended for political consulting.
Vázquez has consistently proclaimed her innocence, claiming, “I didn’t commit a crime. I guarantee you that they have done me a great injustice.”
In 2025, Trump issued several controversial pardons, which included various defendants from January 6 events and public figures like former congressman George Santos.
This remains a developing situation, so updates may follow as more information becomes available.
