Trump’s Plan to Revitalize Capital Areas
President Trump announced new efforts to revitalize areas of the capital, emphasizing his plans to clean up what he describes as the “filth and incompetence” left by former President Biden.
In a post on Truth Social, he shared a video featuring the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool, accompanied by the song “Time to Say Goodbye” by Andrea Bocelli. “This is the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial in front of Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum. I’ll fix it,” Trump stated. He added a somewhat urgent tone, suggesting, “Study up, because we won’t have long to see this Biden dirtiness and incompetence!”
The 29-second clip showed workers draining water from the iconic pool and removing accumulated green algae, all while the message “Make DC Beautiful Again” flashed on the screen.
While Trump did not outline specific renovations for the reflecting pool, this initiative comes on the heels of a controversial renovation of the White House’s East Wing, which included the addition of a new ballroom.
Images were shared by the National Mall and Memorial Park, showing crews cleaning the pools in preparation for the holiday season. They commented, “We clean our reflecting pools just like we spruce up our homes before guests arrive,” referring to their social media presence.
They also mentioned that within days, a specialized cleaning machine, dubbed the Super Scrubber, would be in operation. Staff will address leaves, debris, and other unwanted materials, emphasizing not to walk in the reflective pool while it fills again.
The reflecting pool, originally built in 1923, underwent a significant 18-month renovation to fix sinking and leaking issues, ultimately reopening in August 2012 at a cost of over $30 million.
Since assuming office in January, President Trump has been actively engaging in renovations at the White House, injecting his personal style into the historic residence.
His second-term projects are notably moving faster than those during his first term. So far this year, he has added prominent flagpoles on both the north and south lawns, introduced white stone to the Rose Garden curriculum, overlaid gold leaf in the Oval Office and Cabinet rooms, renovated the Lincoln Bedroom’s bathroom, re-marble the Palm Room, and even placed a photograph of himself in the “Presidential Walk of Fame” within the West Wing colonnade.
