Trump shifts Education Department functions to other federal agencies

President Donald Trump announced Friday that some of the remaining functions of the Department of Education will move to “quickly effective” for the Department of Small Business Management and Health and Human Services.

Earlier this month, the education sector x more than 1,300 workers, and Secretary Linda McMahon called for a “first step” towards the demolition of the agency. She confirmed that Trump had directed the education department to close.

“These two elements will be taken from the Ministry of Education.”

On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order to begin elimination of the education sector.

He called the move “very historic” and “45 years of making.”

“45 years later, the US is spending much more money on education than any other country, and likewise, much more money on each student, and that's not even close. “Closening the Department of Education gives children and their families an opportunity to escape a system of failure.”

Trump announcement On Friday, some of the remaining education sector obligations will be handed over to other federal agencies.

“I have decided that the SBA, a small business manager led by the incredible guy Kelly Loeffler, will handle all of our student loan portfolios,” Trump said.

The education division oversees $1.6 trillion in federally supported student loans transferred under SBA authorities.

He said the federal student loan program is “a rather complicated transaction and it's coming out of the Department of Education soon.”

“It would provide a much better service than it was in the past,” he added. “That was a mess.”

Trump also revealed that HHS will handle nutrition programs and students with special needs.

“[Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.]and will handle special needs and all nutrition programs and everything else, along with the Department of Health and Human Services.

“These two elements will be taken from the Ministry of Education,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration faces a lawsuit filed last week by a group of attorney generals in 20 states and Washington, D.C. The complaint alleges that Trump lacks the authority to terminate the ED.

Thursday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta (d), one of the states suing the administration; I said His office will review Trump's executive action.

“The Trump administration knows and even acknowledges that the President cannot rule out the U.S. Department of Education without Congressional approval. Still, it continues to do everything it can to destroy the department's ability to carry out the “final mission” clearly stated, the most important “final mission” that mandates Congress,” Bonta said.

“Last week we sued the Trump administration over mass shootings of Department of Education workers, another step in our ultimate goal of dismantling the department from within.
