Trump Signs Executive Order on AI Innovation and Security

President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at bolstering artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and security. This move reflects a focus on enhancing capabilities within the developed world.

The executive order instructs federal agencies to “establish or expand” programs and cybersecurity services to “enhance AI-enabled defensive tools.” It emphasizes the importance of “accelerating and prioritizing” cyber defenses for civilian federal information systems to safeguard America’s “critical capabilities.”

“U.S. policy is to promote AI innovation and security through collaboration with the private sector, aimed at modernizing information systems and fortifying them against external threats,” the order outlines. It also stresses protecting American creativity and intellectual property from theft by adversaries while developing advanced AI capabilities.

In addition, Trump stated, “The government will continue to collaborate closely with industry to ensure that the most effective and secure technology is swiftly deployed to address any threats to our nation.”

Back in May, the White House had announced a delay for the signing of an executive order on AI. Reports suggested that the delay followed concerns from former crypto and AI czar David Sachs, who expressed apprehensions regarding this presidential decision.

In a previous statement, Trump indicated that starting in December 2025, U.S. “leadership” in AI is intended to advance “national and economic security and advantage across various domains.”

Concerns have also emerged among some Americans regarding the ongoing AI developments, particularly in Japan. A Quinnipiac University poll revealed that while 35% of Americans felt excited about AI, a substantial 62% reported feeling either indifferent or uninterested.

Experts have warned that the rapid growth of AI in the U.S. could significantly impact the labor market.
