Trump Signs Executive Order to Reinstate Fitness Council

On Thursday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at bringing back the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, along with the presidential fitness tests, as confirmed by White House officials.

“President Trump’s goal is to ensure future generations in America are strong, healthy, and successful,” stated Karoline Leavitt, the White House press chief. She expressed that the president hopes every young American can focus on leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

Prominent sports figures, including Bryson DeChambeau, Harrison Butker, Annika Sorenstam, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Lawrence Taylor, and Cody Campbell, are expected to attend the council’s upcoming events, with DeChambeau set to chair the council.

The executive order addresses what officials describe as a growing concern over health and fitness, utilizing a time-honored approach that celebrates American sports culture. It instructs the council to develop a program in schools that rewards excellence in physical education and establishes criteria for the President’s fitness award. The council plans to collaborate with professional athletes and sports organizations to boost support.

Historically, the President’s Youth Fitness Council was established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, and subsequently, President Lyndon B. Johnson introduced the President’s Physical Fitness Award in 1966.

Trump has increasingly engaged with the world of sports since launching his second presidential campaign, appearing at various events including UFC matches, college football games, and NFL contests. His recent actions have raised eyebrows, particularly his push for teams like Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians to revert to their previous nicknames.

The executive order will be formally signed later in the day.
