Trump Signs Executive Order for Olympic Task Force
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to establish the White House Olympic Task Force. This initiative is aimed at addressing security and logistics in preparation for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
“The United States is a champion country. In 2028, we will demonstrate to the world what America excels at. The Los Angeles Olympics will be a remarkable moment for the country,” he stated, suggesting it’s a great time to be a sports fan in the U.S.
The task force will be led by key figures, including Vice President J.D. Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondy, and Secretary of Homeland Security, among others.
One of their primary goals will be to coordinate efforts among federal, state, and local governments, particularly regarding transportation. Additionally, they aim to streamline visa processing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and the media, as reported by Reuters.
“We’ll take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Olympics, including possibly deploying the National Guard and military,” Trump mentioned, while also critiquing Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, highlighting concerns about local readiness. “It will be very safe – if it needs to be.”
During his first term, Trump played a pivotal role in securing the U.S. bid to host the 2028 Olympics. He views guiding this significant global event in his second term as a great honor.
Earlier this week, LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman remarked that the task force represents a united commitment to plan for what he believes will be the biggest event the world has seen in 2028. He expressed gratitude to Trump for his ongoing support and involvement since the successful bid in 2017.
Before this major event, the U.S. will also be hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Trump acknowledged with enthusiasm during a recent appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup final.
Los Angeles had previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984, and it seems the excitement is already building for another opportunity to shine on the world stage.
