Trump’s Stance on Possible U.S. Involvement in Iran Conflict
In Washington, President Trump has yet to make a decision regarding U.S. participation alongside Israel in any military action against Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He mentioned that his choice will likely come “one second before that deadline.”
Recently, Trump hinted at considering U.S. engagement in the Israeli-Iran conflict to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. However, he stated that he and his national security team would continue discussions in the situation room.
Interestingly, Trump alleged that Iranian officials have expressed a desire to come to the White House for talks on foreign affairs.
“I have some ideas on how to approach this, but I prefer to finalize decisions at the very last moment. Situations can evolve rapidly, especially in wartime,” he remarked.
“I’m not eager to start a fight, but if it comes down to fighting or letting them possess nuclear arms, then sometimes you must take action. That said, it’s possible we won’t need to resort to fighting,” he added.
Trump emphasized, “Remember, we’re not in combat. We add our own strategies, but we aren’t engaging in fights at this time.”
On Friday, Israel reportedly took action against Iran by targeting key nuclear scientists and military leaders associated with the country’s nuclear program.
During a conversation on Friday, Trump claimed he was aware that a strike would occur after permitting Iran a 60-day window to limit its uranium enrichment.
While diplomatic engagements seem unlikely, Trump has kept the door open, suggesting that Iran might still consider visiting Washington for discussions. “They want to come to the White House, and I might agree,” he remarked, although officials noted the challenges they face in departing Tehran after Israel’s recent actions.
Trump has conducted multiple briefings with his national security team, delving into the latest intelligence surrounding the conflict for nearly a week.
“Everyone is prepared to follow his lead. That’s how things operate here at the White House. When he sets a course, we act on it,” a White House official shared regarding the recent activities in the situation room.
What seems to be on Trump’s mind is Israel’s capability to take out Iran’s deep-seated Fordow nuclear facilities, which might necessitate U.S. military support.
“We possess the only resources that can achieve that, but it doesn’t mean I’ll definitely take that step,” he noted. “That’s something I’ve been contemplating.”
