President Donald Trump has announced he will step down at the conclusion of his second term and has put forth two potential successors for consideration.
In a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he stated that he is “not looking” to run for a third term.
“I will be the president for eight years. I will be the president for two terms. I always thought it was very important,” Trump noted. “This isn’t what I’m trying to do. I’ve spent four years and want to hand it over to someone else. Ideally, I’m a great Republican.”
While he mentioned that it is “too early” to determine who might take his place, he expressed confidence in Vice President J.D. Vance, saying he is doing a “great job.”
“It’s too early to say that, but I have a vice president… JD does a great job,” he remarked.
In addition, Trump mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio as another viable candidate.
“I don’t want to get involved in it. I think he’s a great, great guy. Marco is great. He’s great,” Trump added. “There are a lot of good people at this party.”
In a recent update, President Trump identified Vice Presidents JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential successors.
Just last week, Trump announced that Secretary Rubio would also serve as the interim national security adviser in addition to his current duties. In a social media update on Thursday, he shared that Mike Waltz, the current national security adviser, has been reassigned, with plans to nominate Waltz as the new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
