Trump Discusses Casualties in Ukraine-Russia War

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump made a statement regarding the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, claiming that 25,000 people lost their lives last month alone, with an additional 32,000 casualties the previous month.

He emphasized this point while speaking to reporters on the White House lawn, saying, “Last month, 25,000 people died in the Ukraine-Russia war, okay? 25,000.” Trump added that the majority of those casualties, about 97%, were soldiers. But the total—whether soldiers or civilians—paints a grim picture. “Think of it: 32,000. Two months ago, 33,000 people; this month, 25,000 people died. What a shame,” he remarked.

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Russia has incurred losses estimated at around 450,000 soldiers since the invasion began in 2022.

Trump expressed a desire to see the war end soon, mentioning that he had a recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “I spoke to him a lot, and he’s going along and Putin’s going along. And someday, hopefully in the not too distant future, maybe before the heavy winter, they’ll make a deal,” he noted.

He also stated that he encouraged Zelenskyy to pursue negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I want him to settle with Putin, and I want Putin to settle with him,” Trump explained, reiterating his stance on the need for a deal.

Furthermore, Zelenskyy shared on Friday that Trump had approved Ukraine’s ability to license and produce U.S. Patriot missile interceptors. “There are concrete agreements regarding Patriot licenses. At our meeting, President Trump stressed that he had made his final decision: Ukraine will receive licenses to produce Patriot missiles,” he tweeted.

Previously, Trump had been somewhat reluctant to grant Ukraine these licenses, which marks a significant shift in policy.
