Trump Hints at Resuming Talks with Iran Soon

President Donald Trump indicated on Wednesday that discussions with Iran might restart within the next 36 to 72 hours.

Later in the day, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt clarified that Trump has “not set a firm deadline for receiving Iran’s offer,” which contradicted claims from unnamed sources suggesting a tighter timeline of three to five days.

According to Trump’s text messages relayed to the New York Post, some sources in Islamabad are optimistic about mediation with the Iranian government, hinting at the potential for renewed peace talks shortly. He suggested, when asked by the Post about a possible breakthrough, that “It’s possible!”

Earlier reports noted that Trump was considering giving Iran three to five days to formulate a counter proposal.

A U.S. official familiar with the situation mentioned that Trump plans to offer a ceasefire extension for another three to five days to allow Iran time to stabilize the situation, though this will not extend indefinitely.

Trump had announced a ceasefire late Tuesday, just before the expiration of an initial two-week ceasefire, yet did not specify when it would conclude.

Given the Iranian government’s well-known internal divisions, and following requests from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, we’ve been advised to delay attacks on Iran until their leadership can present a unified plan. Consequently, I have instructed the military to maintain the blockade while remaining prepared for other actions, extending the ceasefire until proposals are submitted and discussions conclude. — Donald J. Trump

Trump shared this information on Truth Social after meetings with senior officials on Tuesday, while Vice President J.D. Vance’s anticipated visit to Islamabad for negotiations fell through.

Meanwhile, tensions escalated on Wednesday as three container ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claiming to have seized several vessels.
