Trump Speaks on Iran’s Economic Future at G7

Evian-les-Bains, France—During a session at the G7, President Trump responded to a question from Breitbart News regarding Iran’s economic prospects, stating that these opportunities could be “good” if cooperation with the U.S. continues.

This exchange happened while Trump met with Qatar’s Emir, Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

When asked about Iran’s economic opportunities, Trump said, “I think they’re good.” He mentioned that the U.S. has many prospects globally, and given Iran’s proximity to oil resources, it’s reasonable to assume they could succeed. However, he emphasized that Iran needs to prove itself first before any international investments are considered, wishing them well in their endeavors.

Trump also stressed the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He asserted that if Iran had such capabilities, it could lead to significant regional destruction, including potential threats to Israel. He believed that without the U.S. dismantling the previous nuclear agreement (the JCPOA), Iran would have already developed nuclear weapons.

Later, Trump criticized the JCPOA as a “path to nuclear weapons,” asserting that his approach does not financially reward Iran. He reflected on his administration’s military actions, distinctly separating them from previous agreements he deemed ineffective.

Regarding the JCPOA, he remarked, “Aside from NAFTA, it was the stupidest deal I’ve ever seen. We paid them billions, while they essentially got nothing in return.” He claimed to have ended the deal during his first term and mentioned the utilization of bombers to target enriched materials effectively. Trump referenced how major news outlets downplayed the effectiveness of these strikes.

Emir Al-Thani also acknowledged the importance of Iran’s economic prospects but reminded that recent diplomatic efforts were focused primarily on securing peace rather than immediate economic gains. He expressed that establishing an agreement to halt conflicts was their top priority, although there is potential for significant economic opportunities in the long run.

Ultimately, both leaders signaled a cautious optimism about Iran’s future but stressed the immediate need for stability and peace in the region.
