Trump Discusses Diddy’s Pardon Request
President Donald Trump recently mentioned that music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has asked for a pardon. Combs faced conviction on two counts related to transportation for prostitution but was found not guilty of sex trafficking and extortion by a jury in Manhattan earlier this year. He received a sentence of over four years in prison back in October.
During a press interaction in the Oval Office, Trump brought up this request while responding to questions about a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. “I have many people… He asked me for forgiveness,” Trump stated, referring to Combs, whom he called “Puff Daddy.”
In an earlier interview, Trump expressed doubt about the possibility of a pardon for Combs, citing concerns over past statements made by Combs himself. “I think he was essentially kind of semi-innocent,” Trump remarked. He noted having had a friendly relationship with Combs but also referred to points of contention that arose during his own election campaign, saying, “He made some terrible comments when you ran for office.” The president concluded with uncertainty about Combs’ request, stating, “I don’t know… it makes it more difficult to do.”
Combs’ lawyer, Mark Agnifilo, commented that there were no clemency requests being made by Combs’ office, expressing a lack of clear information on the matter. He indicated it’s sometimes hard to discern what’s true or simply hearsay about the situation.
Before his conviction, Combs did express remorse for his actions, publicly apologizing to his victims, emphasizing his regret and desire to take responsibility for his behavior.
