Former President Trump hinted Saturday that he could seek a third term if he wins next November.
In a conference with the National Rifle Association (NRA) on Saturday, President Trump questioned whether he would seek a second or third term in office if he secures victory in the 2024 presidential election.
“You know, FDR served 16 years, almost 16 years, he served four terms. I don’t know, do we count as three terms or two terms? ” he asked the crowd during Saturday’s event.
“If I win, will I get a third term or a second term?” he added.
As he continued speaking, I heard someone yell, “Three!”
President Trump has previously said he would not seek a third term in the White House if he wins the November election. In an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” last year, he said: he didn’t If re-elected, he will seek a third term.
The 22nd Amendment limits presidential terms to two terms. Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt won four terms before the amendment was enacted, but died prematurely during his fourth term.
In an interview with time magazine The document, released last month, also said Trump would retire after his second term and would not challenge the 22nd Amendment.
“I’m not for the challenge. It’s not for me. I’m not for it at all. I’m going to serve four years and do a great job. And I want to get our country back on the right track. I want to go back to that,” he said.
“Our country is in decline. We are now a nation in decline. We are a nation in turmoil,” he added.
