Trump suggests Israel's attack on Iran could have unforeseen advantages for the nuclear agreement

Trump Comments on Israel’s Strike and US-Iran Nuclear Deal

Former President Donald Trump suggested that Israel’s recent military action against Iran might actually enhance the likelihood of a renewed US-Iran nuclear agreement. When asked if he believed the strike would affect negotiations, he noted, “I don’t think so. I’m probably against it. Maybe they’ll negotiate seriously.”

Trump urged Iran to reach a deal “before there’s nothing left” after Israeli forces targeted the nation’s nuclear facilities and missile sites. His administration is keen on finding diplomatic resolutions amid these tensions.

In his comments, he remarked, “I couldn’t take them to the deal within 60 days. They were nearby; they should have done it. Maybe that’s going to happen.” During his presidency, Trump withdrew the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a deal designed to limit Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for easing sanctions on the Iranian economy.

Attempts to reinstate the JCPOA during President Joe Biden’s administration have not yielded successful outcomes, despite several discussions.

Trump continues to prioritize negotiations with Iran, emphasizing the country’s commitment to not develop nuclear weapons. At the same time, Iran has expressed its refusal to acknowledge the US’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful civilian use. There are reports indicating that Trump may be open to allowing Iran to enrich uranium for such purposes.

Upcoming nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran were planned for Sunday, but following the Israeli strikes, Iran’s state media declared it would cease participation “until further notice.” The White House has been contacted for comments on this developing situation.
