Trump suggests significant reductions in his initial budget proposal for a second term.

On Friday, President Trump revealed his budget proposal for 2026.

In a message to Senate Budget Committee Chair Susan Collins, Executive and Budget Director Russell Vought explained that the budget would reduce the non-defense discretionary budget by 22.6%, aiming to lower overall spending by $163 billion.

Despite the cuts elsewhere, the administration plans to boost defense spending by 13%, bringing it to a hefty $1 trillion. Vought also highlighted what he referred to as a $175 billion "historic" investment aimed at supporting Trump’s extensive deportation efforts and securing the borders.

Additionally, Vought mentioned that the budget will maintain funding for crucial areas like homeland security, veterans’ services, support for seniors, law enforcement, and infrastructure projects.

This proposal marks the first budget for Trump’s second term, arriving shortly after the milestone of the 100th day in office.
