Trump on Summit with Putin: 25% Chance of Failure

WASHINGTON – President Trump has suggested there’s a 25% likelihood that his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin may not succeed.

In an interview with Fox Radio’s Brian Kilmeade, Trump stated that he believes he is a significant factor in bringing Putin to the negotiating table. “I think he wants to achieve a lot. If it wasn’t for me, he likely wouldn’t be talking to anyone,” Trump remarked.

He went on to assert, “I’m the toughest person he has ever faced. He hasn’t had to deal with someone like me before.”

Trump also mentioned that the Friday meeting could potentially take place in Alaska, with a chance for a follow-up involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as well.

“Now, he’s convinced he’ll reach an agreement,” Trump added, suggesting he would quickly gauge the outcome.

He described the forthcoming encounter as a preliminary step towards peace, stating, “I can’t say we’ll achieve an immediate ceasefire, but I believe it will come.”

“I’ll contact President Zelensky based on how my meeting unfolds,” Trump noted, hinting at three possible locations for the second meeting, with Alaska being the simplest option.

“If the meeting goes badly, I won’t be reaching out to anyone; I’ll just head home,” he remarked.

Trump highlighted Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, as a backdrop for the talks.

The details surrounding the Alaska Summit were, at that point, still unclear, particularly regarding whether the leaders would hold a joint press conference afterwards.

“I believe there will be a press conference no matter what,” Trump stated. “If things turn negative, I’ll hold a press conference to announce that the war continues, and both sides are still attacking each other. It’s disgraceful, and I’ll return to Washington.”

Conversely, he mentioned the possibility of a positive press conference as well.

Trump acknowledged his past optimism, admitting, “I’ve stopped six wars this year. This has turned into one of the more challenging conflicts, and it hasn’t been easy.”
