Trump Backs Komatireddy Against AG James

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing a significant challenge as former President Donald Trump has announced his support for Republican Saritha Komatireddy in her campaign to replace James. Trump described Komatireddy as an “America First Patriot” in a post on Truth Social, expressing his belief that she could restore honor to the state’s attorney general position.

In his endorsement, Trump lamented the ongoing tensions between Governor Kathy Hochul and James, labeling her as “the most corrupt attorney general in the land.” Interestingly, Komatireddy had previously been nominated by Trump for a federal judgeship in 2020, which adds some historical context to his backing.

Komatireddy’s campaign gains more significance as James continues to pursue mortgage fraud charges against Trump, which has fueled their ongoing conflict. Trump has been quite vocal about his disdain for James, especially after she successfully sued him for fraudulently inflating his assets to secure better loans. Though an appeals court later reversed the hefty $465 million fine imposed on him, Trump remains critical of James’s actions.

In his typical fashion, Trump didn’t hold back on James, calling her “the worst Attorney General in this country” and recalling her failed gubernatorial run where she received less than 1% of the vote. He expressed frustration over what he perceives as her focus on him rather than addressing rising crime rates in New York, resulting in an exodus of businesses and residents from the state.

Contrasting James’s record, Trump praised Komatireddy’s experience, highlighting her previous role as chief of staff for the Drug Enforcement Administration, her background as a federal prosecutor, and her time as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

According to Trump, Komatireddy’s priorities include promoting law and order, supporting law enforcement and veterans, and ensuring election integrity. He believes these issues are critical for New York’s future.

Komatireddy, who has actively criticized James’s approach to the state’s fraud investigations, expressed gratitude for Trump’s endorsement. She acknowledged her nomination as a federal judge and highlighted her commitment to defeating James in the upcoming election. As the campaign heats up, all eyes will be on the race as voters decide in November.

The campaign has not yet received a response from James’s team regarding Trump’s endorsement of Komatireddy.
