Trump Endorses John James for Michigan Governor

On Monday, President Donald Trump expressed his support for U.S. Representative John James, who is campaigning for the governorship of Michigan. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “I am honored to support America First Congressman John James as he runs to be the next governor of the beautiful state of Michigan! I fully support John James to be the next Governor of Michigan. He will not let you down!”

James reciprocated the praise on social media, referring to Trump as “the greatest president that ever lived.”

Following Trump’s endorsement, Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial primary, throwing his support behind James. He noted, “This campaign has always been about the people of Michigan and supporting President Trump to defeat the Democratic Party in November. Today, I am ceasing my campaign and proudly joining President Trump in endorsing John James as Michigan’s next governor.” Nesbitt emphasized the need for unity to avoid a divided primary that could benefit the Democrats.

James responded positively to Nesbitt’s endorsement, stating, “When President Trump endorsed this campaign, Aric Nesbitt did exactly what a true Michigan conservative should do. He rallied behind the president and our mission to save Michigan from republic-destroying liberals and RINOs!”

However, not everyone is on board with this direction. Businessman Perry Johnson, who is also in the race, criticized Trump’s choice to endorse James, suggesting that it was a misstep. He remarked, “President Trump has received bad advice once again. Michigan has already seen this movie, as John James has lost twice statewide. All of the statewide candidates supported by Trump, including John James, have fallen short when it matters most.”

Amid this, former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, another candidate in the race, defended his alignment with Trump. He mentioned his successful political history and expressed his determination to become Trump’s favored governor if elected.
