Trump Endorses Anthony Constantino for Congressional Seat
President Donald Trump offered his endorsement on Tuesday to Anthony Constantino, a CEO from New York known for his advocacy of pro-Trump sentiments, particularly highlighted by a legal battle over a massive “Vote for Trump” sign he installed at his company’s factory.
Interestingly, this endorsement goes against the wishes of the New York Republican Party, which had preferred Congressman Robert Smullen over Constantino for New York’s 21st Congressional District seat left vacant by Elise Stefanik. Trump expressed his support for Constantino via Truth Social, describing him as an “America First Patriot.” He wrote, “I am honored to endorse Anthony Constantino, who will represent the great people of New York’s 21st Congressional District.”
Constantino later spoke to Fox News Digital, sharing his excitement about the support from Trump. He noted that the president told him he backs every primary candidate and looks forward to winning the general election. “I want to make everyone who supported me proud when I get to Congress,” he added.
While Smullen has support from established Republican figures, Constantino is backed by significant Trump allies, including Roger Stone and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani. It’s a notable split within the party, as some insiders have raised concerns about how Trump came to endorse Constantino. Smullen accused Stone of misleading the president to rush the endorsement, stating, “A consultant contacted the president, and I think the president made a mistake.” He insists Trump needs to hear the full story.
Constantino’s rise in the political spotlight began with his controversial billboard, which, despite local opposition, received national attention. Trump praised him for his dedication, saying, “Anthony was such a great supporter that he actually put up a somewhat ‘controversial’ sign in my honor, over strong opposition. That sign is still there!”
Stefanik’s decision not to seek re-election comes amid various political shifts, including a brief campaign for governor that didn’t pan out. In an earlier turn of events, Trump had originally nominated her for a UN ambassador role but later retracted it over concerns about maintaining a slim Republican majority.
