Trump Critiques Ukrainian Leadership at Press Conference

President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference this Monday, particularly regarding Zelensky’s hesitance towards “land exchanges.”

Trump stated, “Look, I’ll get along with Zelensky, but I have to be very strict here. What he’s done is concerning. This war shouldn’t have happened.” He emphasized that he believes Ukraine’s challenges stem from Russia’s actions in 2022.

“Honestly, I was a bit perplexed by Zelensky’s comments about needing constitutional approval,” Trump remarked. “He can enter a war and kill, but needs approval for land exchanges? That seems off.”

This week, a summit with Putin topped Trump’s agenda, centering around the situation in Ukraine.

Trump added, “I know through discussions, and with Russia, what’s beneficial for Ukraine.” Following Russia’s invasion, Zelensky declared martial law on February 24, 2022, with support from the Ukrainian Parliament.

Trump detailed what he aimed to achieve in his meeting with Putin, calling it a “feel-out meeting” during which he hoped to ascertain the possibility of a resolution.

“I’ll speak to Vladimir Putin directly,” Trump stated, reiterating that ending the war is critical. He asserted that had he won the 2020 election, the situation might have played out differently, suggesting Putin wouldn’t have invaded.

Trump mentioned, “I’ll go in prepared and see what transpires. It might lead to something positive. We’re taking this a step further.” He expressed the urgency of achieving a ceasefire, indicating an intention to collaborate with European leaders and Zelensky for what he hopes will be a significant success.
