Trump Targets Service Workers With Promise To Make Tips Tax-Free

Presumptive 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made a key pledge about taxing service workers at a rally in Las Vegas on Sunday.

President Trump has announced that if he is re-elected as US president, tips earned by service workers will not be taxed.

“I’m the first person to say this, but hotel workers and people who get tipped are going to be very happy, because if I’m president, I’m not going to tax tips or people who get tipped,” Trump told the massive audience, which erupted in cheers.

“We’re not going to do that. We’re going to do it right away,” he continued. “We’re going to do it right away, as soon as we take office, because this has been a contentious issue for years, and you do a great job of service and taking care of people, and I think it’s going to be something that’s really well-deserved.”

“More importantly, whether it’s popular or not, I’ll do things that are unpopular if it’s the right thing for the country. I’ll do the right thing,” Trump said. “But to those of you who work in restaurants, whatever job you have, if you have a tip job, we’re not going to tax you anymore. That’s it.”

Trump spoke for more than an hour at the event without a teleprompter, Trump spokesman Steven Chang claimed on Twitter, after the Republican candidate told the crowd that his teleprompter had stopped working, despite him “paying a lot of money to a teleprompter company.” (RELATED: “I call him a watermelon head!”: Dr. Phil struggles to keep a straight face as Trump slams Democratic representative)

“I don’t have a teleprompter right now,” Trump said after it was reported that his teleprompter had stopped working. “I pay a lot of money to a teleprompter company, and 20 percent of the time it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work. It’s just shaking, and I can’t tie it a little tighter. I’m trying to look… So, everybody, everybody, we’re all in this together. Everybody, everybody’s in this together. It’s just a mess!”

Hours before President Trump took the stage to speak unscripted, President Joe Biden made the gaffe during a memorial speech at the Aisne-Marines American Cemetery, which commemorates American soldiers who fought and died in World War I.

“We had to wait months just to get money for Iraq,” Biden said, apparently referring to funding for Ukraine.

Biden is known for sticking to what’s being delivered via teleprompter, but that doesn’t mean his remarks always go as planned. While speaking to the Building Trades Unions National Legislative Conference in April, the Democratic president misread instructions to the audience, saying, “…Four more years. Take a break.”
