Trump Revokes Kamala Harris’s Secret Service Detail

On August 29, 2025, it was reported that President Donald Trump has removed the Secret Service detail assigned to former Vice President Kamala Harris. This decision comes after former President Joe Biden had extended her security for an additional 18 months during his term, though Biden’s team did not clarify the rationale behind that extension.

According to a senior White House official, it’s standard for a vice president’s security detail to expire six months after leaving office. Harris’s protection would have officially concluded on July 21, the same date when her husband, Doug Emhoff, lost his own security detail.

Trump’s office issued a formal notification to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stating that as of September 1, 2025, Harris’s security provisions are no longer authorized.

“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” the document indicated.

Following this announcement, Kristen Allen, a senior adviser to Harris, expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service for their commitment to her safety.

“The Vice President is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety,” she stated.

In California, officials are discussing alternatives for Harris’s security. Governor Gavin Newsom was reportedly informed about the withdrawal of her protection on the same day.

“The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses,” commented Newsom’s spokesperson, Bob Salladay.

Since Harris resides in Los Angeles, there’s a possibility she could receive protection from the city police department, a matter that Mayor Karen Bass is currently evaluating.

“This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation. This puts the former Vice President in danger, and I look forward to working with the Governor to ensure her safety in Los Angeles,” Bass remarked.

The loss of her Secret Service detail means that Harris will no longer have agents working around the clock for her safety or monitoring potential threats through social media and communications. This situation raises concerns, especially considering the previous instances of political retaliation witnessed recently.
