President-elect Donald Trump has endorsed Jimmy Patronis, the state's chief financial officer, to replace the state's firebrand Matt Gaetz after he resigns from his position in Congress.
Gates resigned from Congress shortly after President Trump nominated him as attorney general, sparking much controversy online and in the media. Less than two weeks later, Gates decided to withdraw his candidacy for attorney general to avoid further distraction from the Trump transition team. Gaetz confirmed that he does not intend to return to the 119th Congress, leaving his seat vacant.
As a result, Patronis' name has emerged as a possible replacement for Gates. Mr. Patronis was a longtime ally of Mr. Trump and enjoyed the president's wholehearted support.
President Trump: “Jimmy Patronis, Florida's chief financial officer, has done an outstanding job as CFO, served as the state's fire marshal, and served as a key member of the Florida Cabinet.'' said In Monday's Truth Social post. “I heard that Jimmy is currently considering launching a Congressional campaign in Florida’s 1st Congressional District!”

Trump further strengthened his support by pointing to Patronis' political experience and local ties to Florida's 1st Congressional District.
“Jimmy, a fourth-generation Floridian from the beautiful Panhandle and owner of an iconic seafood restaurant, is a great friend to me and to MAGA,” Trump continued. “As Congressman-elect, Jimmy will work with me to grow our economy, secure our borders, stop immigration crime, strengthen our incredible military and veterans, restore America's energy dominance, and always be under siege. I've heard that he will work tirelessly to protect the Second Amendment.”
“Jimmy Patronis has my full and complete support if he decides to enter this race,” President Trump said. “Run, Jimmy, run!”
Patronis answered In a letter to Trump on Monday in the X-Post, he seemed open to the idea of running to replace Gates.
“Let me work, Mr. President!” said Patronis. “I'm here to serve.”
